Compare buoy, tide-station and coastal radar references without treating their measurements as interchangeable.
Purpose and context
OceanGrid brings marine and environmental data into a product-specific research context. Its public resources distinguish measured observations, modeled surfaces, forecasts and navigational products. The original agencies remain the authorities for releases, quality flags and terms. A source's presence in this collection does not mean all of its records are available through OceanGrid.
Using these references
For a water-level series, preserve the station identifier, vertical datum and whether a value is observed or predicted. For buoy data, retain sensor availability, quality information and the time represented by each report. A wave-height measure does not describe every individual wave. Coastal high-frequency radar describes near-surface current estimates rather than a complete water-column velocity profile. Check coverage and missing intervals before comparing these records or using them as context for offshore concepts.
Scope and limitations
These references support research and data discovery. They are not navigation instructions, a marine forecast, a permit assessment or assurance of conditions at an installation.
